There is still a limited amount of money available in the current program year - which ends in March - for the Home Improvement Repair grant program. To be eligible, you must own your home, meet certain income criteria, and could not have previously received a grant through this program. The amount of each grant is based on income and family size. The grant can be used for exterior improvements such as painting, siding, gutters, roofs, doors, windows, steps, railings, sidewalks and driveways.
If you qualify, this program can provide up to $2,000 for those repairs that do not need to be concerned with historic compliance (for example, sidewalks) and up to $5,000 if the proposed work involves historic restorations or renovations that meet historic guidelines - as determined by the age of your home and the extent to which the proposed improvement matches original features of the structure.
